Established in 1961, John B. Daugherty, P.L.C., Attorney at Law, is a general law practice. Serving Benzie, Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Wexford and Manistee Counties and beyond.
Our attorney is John B. Daugherty. His background as an attorney spans over 27 years. Mr. Daugherty has extensive experience in circuit, district and probate courts. During his years of practice, he has handled hundreds of criminal and civil matters before the courts. As a defense attorney and former prosecutor he has handled cases ranging from traffic tickets to murder.
Mr. Daugherty is a graduate of Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and an honors graduate (cum laude) of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan. He was a member of the Cooley Law Review and subsequently worked in the then Cooley Clinic. He later wrote for the Planning and Zoning News.
Mr. Daugherty has served on numerous non-profit boards.
Professionally he is a member of the Michigan Bar Association. Mr. Daugherty also served as a member of the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly for a number of years.
Mr. Daugherty was appointed by Bill Schuette, Michigan Attorney General, to serve as Benzie County Public Administrator. Attorneys acting as county public administrators have powers and duties primarily related to intestate decedent estates where there are apparently no known heirs.
